Hope this is useful to peeps - a summary of the sites I used on this years North Sea Coast trip

Easy enough to find and no lunchtime closure. Despite being busy it's pretty quiet and tents get to pick their own pitch on several separate areas. The facilities are clean, well maintained and modern and unisex. Fresh bread is available from the fairly well stocked shop. I didn't use the restaurant so I can't tell you anything on that score.

Very easy to find, signposted for bikes from the town. The site itself is very peaceful but traffic noise seems to carry a long way! Facilities are well maintained but it's a bit disappointing to pay so much and have to pay for the shower and hot water. Pitches are flat and the ground in reasonable condition. Fresh rolls are available to order but there isn't a shop on or very near to the site so be prepared!

Campsite De Zeehoeve
Westerzeedijk 45

Very easy to find and bike pitches are the closest to the reception! Ablutions are very good, pretty quiet on the site. Rolls are available to order and there is a restaurant on site. Grass was in need of a trim but was in otherwise good condition.

Camping de Dobbe Holwerd
It Keechje 5

Netherlands

I thought maybe this site would be busier how close it is to the ferry but it seems to be lightly used. Grass in good condition but could be shorter, facilities are not the newest but in good working order. It's smack bang in the middle of the town so there are shops nearby, my Sunday arrival of course precluded any being open! There is a rudimentary shelter and picnic benches for tent users - very useful!

Campsite Stadspark
Campinglaan 6
9727 KH Groningen (Groningen)
Netherlands

Price 9.60 euros

For once the price includes free showers although bread arriving at nine is a little late really. The bar restaurant is pleasant although the menu is short. The site was easy enough to find and just within walking distance of the city although I would suggest riding in as a better alternative. The pitches are flat but a bit threadbare in places - watch out if it's wet, the marginally lower tent pitches are liable to flooding! Tents are however close to the facilities which almost counters the flooding!

Camping Haus Naase
Am Leuchtturm 8

Germany

Price €12 shower €1

This is not where I planned on staying on Norderney but it's a good substitute. It might not be to everyone's taste, no shop, no restaurant but the facilities are better than a lot of sites charging far more. Pitches are flat but have a potential for damp. Situation is fairly idyllic, free range rabbits, hardly any noise and friendly proprietor. Shops etc are available in ample quantity in the town about 5km away

No shop but they do sell camping Gaz! That said you can get fresh bread and basic supplies a short walk away and all the usual stuff can be had in the village a bit further on. There is a restaurant/snack bar just off the site. The site is on reclaimed land so it's flat but has a tendency to damp. Whilst the ablutions are of the temporary type they are clean and in good repair, showers and hot water are free. For such a big site it was very quiet and there are extensive tent pitches available.

There has been a campsite here for a long time, certainly over 50 years. With that in mind you might expect more than you get. So your money does include showers and hot water with a free key system. The pitches are level, the grass of reasonable length and condition. However, the ablutions leave a bit to be desired, they function but are in need of a bit of modernisation. The campers room is new with seating, washing up facilities and even a combi cooker. There aren't any other facilities, the office is in a house around the corner, nearest shops are about a kilometre away although there is a restaurant over the road. Big selling point for it is its less than kilometre distance from the Brünsbuttel Cuxhaven ferry terminal.

Bread available to order, limited range of food stuff at the kiosk but a popular and reasonably priced site restaurant. Nearest shopping is some distance away. Toilets are key controlled, €5 deposit and showers require a token at €1 each. Pitches are fairly level but not entirely flat and the site is actually quite sheltered. Easy enough to find and only about twenty minutes ride from the Pellworm and Amrum ferry departure point.

Camping Amrun
Inselstrasse 125

Unless you are a nudist it's the only camping option on Amrum so it's Hobson's. It's not the best organised site and the €10 'bond' is a bit much. The good points are; inclusive showers, small shop, snack bar and bier Stube - bread is available in the shop. What they don't tell you about is the perpetual on shore wind so pick your pitch carefully. The Stube, besides beer does a limited menu of snack food so if the wind deters you cooking there is an alternative. If there was competition they'd have to up their game but i've certainly stayed at worse!

Campingplatz Südhorn

Reasonably well signposted and very friendly staff. Ablutions are very good and there's cooking gear available. On site Stube for beer, snack bar / shop will keep you fed and that includes breakfast bread. Pitches are level but not flat, grass could do with a trim. Not much shelter if the weather is really dire but you don't feel that exposed.

This is the only campsite this trip that was fully booked and paid for before I arrived. By the occupancy rate when I arrived you could usually just turn up but bear in mind there are not a lot of campsites in this area. The tent area is level and the grass had recently been cut when I arrived. Plenty of facilities, showers are paid for via a card system and at DKK8 a time are not expensive. There is a sort of lounge area and the free to use kitchen would put many restaurants to shame. The shop has a reasonable range of basics but there are 3 big supermarkets within a few minutes walk. Bread is available at the site. Not particularly well signposted unless you are in a car!
