If I can get there I might well do it with you. I'll check the train times and B&B prices.

We had a group of two Trices, a Catrike and a Grasshopper onthe Ferry last year!

Fishbourne also provides a good session at the end of the ride.

dkmwt - How do you manage to get your trike on the train? Do you have to dismantle it and bag it? I have a Trice Q and I would find it a bit of a pain to have to take it apart and then reassemble it.[/b]

Beware engineering works - again

All lines through Basingstoke are closed 3-5 May so that probably means no trains in the And0ver/Reading/Woking/Winchester area.
(which means once again no trains at all through my local station)

Has anyone managed to get a Trice on a replacement bus service :?:

I'm travelling down from Swindon on Saturday the 3rd, my trike will be in the back of a rather roomy Espace. My ferry is booked from Portsmouth to Fishbourne (12.00) and I hope to camp at Kite Hill farm (not booked yet). I am returning on the Mon' at 13.30.

If any one needs a lift a part/all of the way (that isnt around the back of beyond!). I might be available to assist, am happy to discuss a bit closer to the time - a PM would do the trick.

Look forward to it dkmwt (and any one else for that matter).

Ah something to keep a smile on my face on the way to work - the prosepct of triking round the IOW! Yes I know a sad and empty life..... :)

Amazing! Booked my 'plot' at Kite Hill for the randonnee. What's so amazing I hear you ask (albeit very quietly)?

Gave my name and dates of arrival/leaving............. no address, no credit card number, no email form where you have to fill in your inside leg measurement........... and log in and register!

Just one call, to one human who took brief details

All I've got to do now is get over the anxiety I have, of my booking residing in somebodies head or being on the back of an envelope 'somewhere' on a desk/down the back of a radiator! :D

Just in case any one from Kite Hill is reading this no offence meant  just pleasantly shocked in a world full of online booking and other overly complicated ways of doing

Don't worry at all.
Kite Hill is an enormous field and there's always somewhere for a small tent.
May will see it with acres of space, although there could be groups of scooterists.

The only prob with Kite Hill is the lack of a decent pub :(

I tend to camp on a farm site at Northwood near Cowes - just yards from the Travellers Joy with eight real ales to sample

I think what sold me on the Kite Hill location was being 'on the route' and as close to the ferry as most places seem to be, not sure why thats important but it is - sort of tidy and logical

Both the Fishburne and the Woodman's appear to be within walking/stumbling or at the very last within taxi distance. Altho' not been to either as first time on the IOW!

And if the worst comes to the worst I will be sampling the local off licence :)

The only problem then will be finding my way back to a tent in 12 acres, at night  Not that I advocate drinking to excess you understand, its not big and its not clever . . . . . . . . . . . . . . But it can be funny :)

Hmm, randonee.... not an Audax, certainly, nor a sportive, absolutely not a TT, doesn't quite sound like a tour and they don't mean a race. Etape? Perhaps a ride....hmmm. Maybe circular, not sure, a rally perhaps. Definitely involves bikes, RTW maybe, as in round the wight, or LECOWES, or should that be Les Cowes? Hmmm, well, could be just a randomee word....

I have the QR kit and a Dahon bike bag. I can pack it up in about 10 mins and provided everything goes according to plan put it back together in the same amount of time.

When it's in the bike bag it's not a bike it's luggage.

In response to Horizon's whimsical(?) post, the IOW randonnee is pretty much an Audax in all but name. Assuming it's not changed since 2002, it's main distinguishing feature is that you can start from any of the 7 checkpoints (finishing wherever you started).

The terms randonnee and randonneur are widely used in Audax circles(probably more so in France) in reference to events of 200k or longer.
