Ron Hill Bikesters

Post by axel_knutt »

Do they still make them with a raised waistline at the back? I've got a pair that need replacing, but the ones that an LBS ordered for me and the ones on Wiggle's website have a horizontal waist that won't keep my back covered. I've also seen an Altura pair, but they don't have a raised back either.

Ground Effect make a very good product. I've got a pair of 'Daddy Longlegs' - they're excellent!

I just got a pair of the pro-bikesters from Wiggle (thicker than the standard) and they do have a raised back. Used them for the first time this weekend and found they kept my legs nice and toasty, great improvement over the standard trackie pants I've been wearing. :D

Bought a pair from Wiggle last week and yes, the back is slightly raised.Used them yesterday and very impressed. Warmer then expected too. Good product.

Bikesters are the cycle version of the original Ron Hill Tracksters which were for joggers etc.
They are more or less the same product except that the bikesters are cut higher at the back.
Does the label say Bikesters or Tracksters?

We both wear Bikesters, the Pro version in winter, the normal version in summer and find them great. Good for walking too. They're (dxb)supposed to rain-resistant, but only to a small amount I find, but very quick drying. They are cut high at the rear, so combined with a low cut shirt you get ample protection round the lumbar region.

Ron Hills are great value. I use them most of the year when it's too cold for shorts. They are so quick drying I've now stopped wearing overtrousers unless it's very cold and I'm out all day. I prefer them to lycra tights as they are a bit more modestly cut and don't clear the supermarket.

The man at Wiggle says his are Bikesters on the label, but when I asked him whether the photo on their site is wrong or Ron Hill has scrapped the high back I didn't get a reply.

Only slightly? The back of my bikesters is a good 3" or 4" higher. If I lay them out like in Wiggle's picture, the waistline makes a steep uphill curve not a straight line like in their photo.
If you look at this page all 3 claim to have a high back, but only the pro actually shows one:

On the Ronhill website it says they have a high cut back.

I have the regular Bikesters and the backs aren't really high enough - I need to wear long base layers or there would definitely be a gap. No wonder they are cheap!

I wear the Tracksters Classic DXB.

I tried the Bikesters but prefer the slightly more relaxed cut of the Tracksters. I have a wider waist than average (!! - only slightly, but apparently enough to mess up ideal average sizing! ), and the less compromising cut of the Bikesters was not comfortable no matter what size I tried! I've never missed the high back.

Having said that I think the Ron Hill kit is excellent, and at last removed the need to wear any sort of over trousers, - just get wet! They hold hardly any water and dry very quickly. I agree with other contributors that I'm not sure how effective any water repellant coatings are, but given their other properties it doesn't really matter?

I would agree that tracksters are great dry or wet. However I mourn the quality of "old" tracksters. My recently purchased pairs are falling to bits whereas my old ones are still going strong!
