I need to drill some holes ...

I have a set of three BB wrenches and would like to drill ~8mm holes in the handles to hang them on my tool board. They are made from ~4mm thick ultra durable steel that a regular HSS drill bit does not touch.
What is the proper way to do this? One of those carbide grit drill bits? Or am I wise just not to bother?
Thanks.

Cobalt drill bits......

centrepunch, drill small hole first (say 4mm), then enlarge. Use lubricant, slow speed, high pressure, keep the bit cutting

Why drill holes and risk weakening the spanner??
Simply mount them horizontally via a couple of screws or nails in the "open mouth" end of the spanner.

^agreed.
There are other options too, such as whipping to the handles and adding a hanging loop to the spanner handles at the same time.
cheers

And then there's the cheap and cheerful approach...
Take about 6" of string (adjust to suit) and form a loop, Reach through one end and close fingers around the "back" of the middle section. Pull through to form a sort of sliding noose. Place noose over spanner and hang from your favoured nail. Easily removed when you want to use the tool.
If you wanted to, you could hang all three from the same loop. they aren't tools that come out to play that often.
And no - I don't think the effort of drilling would be worth the result - as if you couldn't tell!

I have a magnetic rack for tools. Seems to work ok for the lighter ones.

Find a local blacksmith or fabricator. They may well have a hydraulic press thingy that punches holes. My brother does , it can easily punch a 2" hole in inch thick steel.
