Hi I wonder if anybody has rode the NR 500
I would like to know about accommodation on the route and the best time of the year to ride it.
Any information would be useful. Thank you Jim

Re: Nr 500 Scotland
Check the website. There is loads of accommodation listed. I'm not so sure that I'd like to do the east coast section from JOG to Inverness via the A99 and A9. It's far nicer to go down the middle via Bettyhill, Altnaharra and Lairg.

Not sure if you had just made a typo, if not, the abbreviation is NC
I've covered most of the route on a bike at various times but not as one tour. I would suggest the most challenging part would be planning accommodation and places to eat along the route. Booking in advance would require more planning and remove the spontaneity but would be the only way of knowing that you had a bed for the night. Although not busy by southern standards, the relatively few B&B places that exist can quickly become booked up in the summer season. Take enough food to keep you going for the day as there will not be a café round the next corner just when you need one. The opportunities for wild camping are almost unlimited and this could be the preferred option and give you the opportunity to camp in some scenic spots.

Last week (or the weeks before) countryfile on BBC1 featured this route. Worth checking out on iPlayer.
