What's that mounting bar thingy called?

Hi all

I'm looking for a mounting bar that I can put on my wife's crowded racer handlebars, to take a front light and possibly some other gubbins that may accrue there later.

I'm not finding much on the shop websites, but I think I must be searching wrong, bc I've seen them often enough on the road. This http://www.wiggle.co.uk/tate-labs-the-bar-fly-universal-mount/ at Wiggle is roughly it, but too stubby - I want a single bar fixed to the handlebars by two supports (pic of bars attached).

Any pointers gladly received. Thanks,

Ed

Try searching for 'handlebar extender' - lots of stuff - on ebay too.

If you want to push the boat out, how about a Nitto Lamp Holder?

When I was looking for the same thing about two years ago I couldn't find one that fitted each side of the stem. I ended up with a Minoura Space bar with a single quick release fastening. This is quite useful because my lights have fiddly fixings so instead of always having to remove my lights when I leave the bike, I simply remove the bar extender with the lights attached.

This is it
minoura

A quick Google comes up with this one with a double bracket fitting

bar extender

Thanks for 'nowt!
This is so packed with gadgety goodness that I'm now doomed to spend the rest of the year seeking justification for buying one.
And it's only Jan 1 :D

I use this one one:- http://practicalcycles.com/products/241 ... ories.aspx
(available cheaper if you shop around)
They fit 26mm and 31.8mm h/bars,the real plus is that the C/F bar can be swapped for 22mm plastic plumbing overflow pipe cut to whatever length suits best.
Overflow pipe is very strong and stiff is very cheap(cheaper still if you ask a plumber for an offcut),it comes in black or white and the end plugs off the original C/F bar fit for a neat finish.

That Acor one looks like the mounts for Spinacci aero bars. I have some of those in the shed... I've had an idea!

Yep they're very similar but the Spinachi's (which will take 22mm overflow pipe, and are cheap at PlanetX)only fit 26mm h/bars though.

A fellow forumer recommended a Thorn Accessory Bar to me once. Worth a look. Fits tidily in place of spacers...b

Wow, that's a nice haul of info from a diddly little post!

Thank you for all the tips - the reason for getting one that mounts either side of the bar stem was so that the bike could still (with care) be put upside down at the roadside when need be. But since they seem to be easily released, twisted round, I'll look at one of the single-mounted ones.

Many thanks for all the tips!

You shouldn't ever need to turn your bike upside down at the roadside! Velominati rule no 49 refers:
