attaching cleats to shoes - problems

Post by grw »

Hello, sorry if this has been covered in another post, I've had a quick search but found nothing...
I'm having problems attaching new cleats to my shoes. They Shimano Sh-11 cleats on Diadora shoes (can't remember what type). I've managed to get just one of three bolts in. It shouldn't be this difficult should it? Am I just being inept? I don't remember having this much difficulty the first time I attached them - couple of years ago, and I'm fairly sure they're the same cleats... Is there a knack to this that I haven't got? I'm about ready to crawl under the covers and cry...
g
(edit - problem seems that the bolts are too short - anyone had this problem?)

Are the shoes drilled for Shimano cleats? Not long ago some road shoes (eg Sidis) weren't, and were for Look type cleats only; I don't know if that's still the case though. Also, I thought shimano cleats only had 2 bolts each (the type I use, anyway).

I think so, there's definitely enough holes to go round... they look the same as my old shoes did.
They're spd-sl cleats - (sm-sh11 if that makes anything clearer) and the pedals are Shimano spd. I'm going to take them back tomorrow before I break anything with overenthusastic screwing...
My shimano mtb and touring pedal cleats have two bolts though.

Took my shoes back to shop for a refund - none of the staff in the shop - after insisting that there was no problem - werre able to get the cleats on the diadora shoes. Admittedly the shop didn't appear to be staffed by the sharpest tools in the box...
No problem fitting them to a pair of Shimano shoes.
