Decent maps of central europe

Post by vistaed »

Hi I will be touring around Slovenia, Hungry, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, Czech Republic and Germany this summer and need some decent maps. Does anyone have any suggestions of where I can buy some, or which publishers to look out for?

cheers

The Slovenian map service produces good quality maps, but no free on-line mapping yet:

The Austrians produce free on-line mapping, at various scales,

similar to OS getamap and IGN geoportail, as long as you understand a little German.

Hope that helps a bit!

Try the Map Shop at Upton on Severn, Worcestershire. They carry a vast range.

Don't mean to be facetious but it's probably easiest to wait until you get there! I would rough out a route with the easily available cheap maps available here (eg Michelin) then buy something locally. Unless you're absolutely certain where you want to go & it's a relatively compact area to make it worth paying a lot for something larger scale.

Good maps that I used to use in Germany were "Die Ideal Karte", good detail with walking and cycling routes.

Walked past a bookshop here (Budapest) yesterday & saw the nname Freytag & Berndt on a map shop window. I have some of their atlases, though I'm not sure if they do larger scale mapping.
