cycling with a stoma (laryngectomy)

Post by bluenoserob »

am new to cycling and unfortunately about to have my Larynx removed.
Would be grateful for any information about or contact with anyone who knows about cycling with a breathing stoma.

Talk to your surgeon - make sure they know that you will want to be active - probably fewer options there than with a stoma lower down the digestive tract..
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

I had an uncle who suffered that fate. Breathed through a hole in his neck. Had to learn to speak again, no electronic gadgets in those days. I always found him very hard to understand. He insisted on swimming in the sea despite the obvious risks, and died of old age.
So if he could swim, you can ride a bike.
