Question Is the CTC council infected with groupthink?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia
Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that occurs within a group of people, in which the desire for harmony or conformity in the group results in an irrational or dysfunctional decision-making outcome. Group members try to minimize conflict and reach a consensus decision without critical evaluation of alternative viewpoints, by actively suppressing dissenting viewpoints, and by isolating themselves from outside influences.

Here's an idea. Can we set a sub forum up for PBs multiple posts and someone can summarise them for the rest of us so we don't have to trawl through multiple threads on the same subject with just slight variations...

Yes we get you don't like the current council. We get this. We don't need to have it repeated.

Thanks.

Do you really need to read them/know about it? - the "Foe" mechanism on the board works well for suppression ... I have about 5 set up for people to reduce the clutter and claptrap

I have never used the foe mechanism on any fora previously. Never seen the need... humm.

Hi all, Well talk about repeating ones self? For me the constant rebuking of PB just because the people who are making a dog's breakfast of things won't give a coherent response to why this entire mess was deemed necessary?
Silly old fools like we want openness & candor not nonsensical blether!
How can being a begging bowl type body help us improve cycling and change the appalling death spiral we have got into over the roads we must all share.
Being confined to the spaces that the motor Muppetts want us to be will not be any use to anyone, I don't block everywhere up in the creeping car-park that is with us!
The CTC that I joined will be no more.
To show how bad things will be I'll comment that a relevant body said that there were substantially fewer traffic offences in 2014?
Wasn't that due to fewer Police Officers on Traffic duty, with even them not bothering to penalize blatant offences!
As has been pointed out before - "If you're not part of the solution then you are part of the problem"!

Philip Benstead Who is your CTC Regional Councillor?

Why don’t you telephone your Regional Councillor and ask some perceptive questions?
Details here http://www.ctc.org.uk/.../ctcnationalcouncil...

Does this mean CTC regional councillors are now no longer answerable to CTC members?

IMHO It appears the CTC is on a very slippery slope of disengagement from it membership the one who pay around 50% of CTC income.

IMHO
If the names change and governance proposals get though at the AGM on the 7 May 2016 using the chair proxies vote, the ctc will most probably will be in financial crises in around 2 to 3 years due to reduction in the value of contracts and grants and a reduction in members’ income. Given that contracts contribute to core income of CTC HQ staff; result will be a reduction not only in project staff but staff at CTC HQ. The only course of action will be to merge with sustains. It the only charitable body that is suitable.

I think Philip's questions are very relevant, particularly given the current state of the CTC and the changes that the management seem to be wanting to make (and given that this is a CTC forum). And the posts are in relevant sections of the forum.

It seems to me that the CTC management are trying to make major changes to the organisation without the knowledge and approval of the membership. The Councillors seem to be disinterested in the membership, the "employees" seem to be taking/seeking more powers and control, etc. Membership is the last thing on their mind but ignore them and a significant income will be lost (which could be the downfall of the organisation).

CTC Management might prefer that these issues were not raised and discussed, but their behaviour suggests they would rather not have a "membership" but just their money.
