IMHO we need our own Chris Boardman
We have no body to speak for us, Jon Snow is too busy doing the news but is he any good promoting the CTC?................
Philip - we all know how upset you are with what has happened, is still happening, and what's happening in secret that we're not worthy to know about, but please don't bring our patron into it. However you meant your comment, it could be interpreted as a criticism and I for one would view that as unfair.
Having read your posts relating to the demise of the club that was once like an extended family to so many of us, I share your sentiments (or most of them), but please don't bring someone whose fault it isn't into it.
Kindest of regards to you Philip - sincerely.
thank for your concern.
First of all Jon snow is our presitdent, the queen is our patron. The thing Jon put his name to the begging letter. Fromwhat I can see Jon has had little effect on the protecting of cycling on UK roads this is not a criticism but a observation be very busy man.
You're absolutely right Philip - to refer to Jon Snow as 'Patron' was a slip of the tongue - of course he's president. It was a stupid error on my part and I hope that it does not undermine the point I was trying to make.
The one thing that's crucial for any and all cycling organisations is campaigning for respect for cyclists - campaigning for motorists to be forced to consider us as valid human beings and to compel/ensure that highway designers and planners, police and all authorities accept that we exist and have a moral right to exist and to travel in the non-destructive way that we do.
I didn't receive one of the famous begging letters myself, I do know a couple of members who have and I've read the one that was posted on the Forum, but I think that the wording was as ill-judged as anything I've seen and was not worthy of our president. My own take on it was that he was mildly coerced into signing something that was written by someone who didn't know what they were doing.
However my view also is that for the sake of campaigning if nothing else we should all support the 'club' (I genuinely don't know what to call it now) and when all the flying feathers have settled we should get behind the bits that we do support and get active.
I do note, from the post you've put on another thread, that at least the name 'CTC' and the winged wheel badge will continue to be respected (
pro-tempus at least), and I think that is despite what some of the faceless ones appear to have wished to achieve. I don't think that anyone has done more than you Philip - at least not on the Forum - to achieve that and we should all recognise that.
I'm like probably the majority of members, in ignorant isolation of all the inner machinations of the past couple of years, and I'm doubtful and suspicious of the term 'charity', when I consider the shabby and uncharitable way our technical officer was treated. If ever I've been tempted to leave the 'club', it was that disgraceful and unmitigated behaviour of the decision makers that took me close to the point - in secret and with no consultation with those who've paid for our membership down the years. It was such a dark moment and should be on consciences for years to come.
However, up with the winged wheel banner, and onward and upwards.................
