105 on lowest gear (34,32) , should the chain be rubbing?!

Post by RideToWorky »

Hi all,

Picked up the bike today early! Riding home uphill, noticed that the chain was rubbing on the lowest gear. ( Front sprocket smallest, back sprocket largest) )

Is this normal for a 105 group set??! Surely the front 34 would have smooth low gears?!

If it's a trade off, Would prefer the lowest gears to be most well adjusted on the 34 front, and on the 50 front the largest gears less so. Surprised this is happening really.

Hope you can advise!

Regards

No
Can't be set right.
When on the smallest front ring you would expect to "trim" for the last three small cigs at the back.

What’s the chain rubbing against? It’s not clear from your post.

Even if the gears are set up correctly – unlikely if a bike shop did it, in my experience – the chain will rub on the front derailleur if you don’t use the left shifter’s trim function correctly. Read the Shimano user manual for your left shifter, probably available here, to clarify how it works.

If it's rubbing on the front dérailleur then it needs adjusting. To adjust the front derailleur, either the "stop" needs turning out a bit or the cable needs lengthening a fraction.

Unless the derailleur's already in the trim position for the high cogs, of course.

Morning chaps,

Good point!

It is rubbing it n front derailleur, even when push lever repeated for the trim function on to kick in.

Taking bike to shop, as front brake is clicking as well.

Clearly not pdi 'ed well

@sigh@

Thanks for the sanity check, much appreciated

Cheers
