I expect it was already a campaigning organisation when you joined it, as it was when I joined about 25 years ago. Clearly we need a cycling campaigning group for the ordinary cyclist, and the CTC has long been the ordinary cyclists' advocate. It's a role that naturally falls to it, as it naturally fell to organisation like the AA and RAC to become lobby groups for car drivers also. I also joined the CTC to go out with DAs on club runs, and then learned that it also does campaigning. I have learned it is a natural part of what it does. Someone needs to do it, and it is difficult to get into that role without other arrows in your bow to give you an income to do it on.
