Justified upgrade

On this board there is a big anti-upgrade vibe. I totally get the refusal to be led by media hype, but sometimes things do get better. I think it was Richard Ballentine who, suggested you upgrade your helmet every 3 years; I think the same is true of more components and tools.
E.g. After 5 great years with a set of solid lights I upgraded to a set of B&M cyos. A third the price and better and brighter light distribution.
Thoughts on best recent, un hyped, upgrades?

I am finding it difficult!
I agree that the LED lights have been and continue to be improving night riding dramatically.
I appreciated the luxury of the Hyper tyres, the wet weather braking of a disk brake and security of winter tyres but they all have drawbacks too and are just occasional options.
I am still very enamoured with my titanium frame though.

I'm happy with my brass bell, bought from the Lion Bell Works, which I bought following a recommendation by Mick F. It works well on the lanes, and it is starting to go green, which is how I want it.
I haven't spent much on bikes in the last few months, but I may try some Hypers as my Paselas are nearly ready for the bin. Also a result of recommendations on this Forum.

I recently upgraded to an indoor toilet. I still think it's a frivolous expense.

On the offchance you still have the 36h 700C steel rimmed wheel you mentioned way back in 2009, I think ukdodger might be interested

Upgrade to LEDs - kind of a cheat, since I didn't have lights before
Upgrade to disc brake at the front of a BSO - significantly better stopping, it was decided upon after a minor collision.
Upgrade to a 'bent trike - Weehooo
Upgrade to Dynamo - well worth it
Upgrade to Hub Dynamo - even more so, I wish I'd had the budget to do the generator up front as well
Had to go for discs over drums on the trike, due to the lack of a drum braked stub axle dynamo at the time.
Upgrade to a hub gear at the rear - CSRK3 as opposed to a Capreo - very nice.
