The Wrong trousers

Need a good hardwearing pair of trousers for city riding, ie ones with pockets that you can wear to the pub, or for shopping, are quick drying etc. The seat of my Peter Storm outdoor pair has worn through after less than a year of wear. Latest edition of CYCLE has a related query, and Chris Juden recommended Hebden Cords, but thay don't have a website. Anybody else have any recommendations?

I use Montane Terras. Theyre walking trousers really but have stretch panels on the knees and backside that make them comfy to ride in, and press stud buttons on the ankle cuffs so they don't catch your chain. Theyre not waterproof but dry really quick.
It might be worth looking in a walking shop. There seems to be quite a few options along these lines now. Downside is price - i don't think you'll get anything for less than £50 and £75 is more usual.

The Hebden Cord recommendation was from the person enquiring. CJ made several recommendations so have another look there. (I was under the impression that Hebden Cord were out of business.)
Otherwise, I would say the best widely available fabric is polyamide - it feels dry to the leg within seconds of the heaviest downpour stopping. Rohan seem to use very tightly woven grades as their stuff gives much better wind protection than many, but it comes at a price.

Ignore my post above. I've just seen an ad for ground Effect Ranchsliders. £52. Look a better option that walking trousers and cheaper than most. I might have some of those myself

Maybe worth having a look at the '2nd Question of the Week' thread in the Tea Shop.

I never got a reply from Endura but did buy a copy of their Humvee trousers and haven't got them wet enough to really comment on them beyond saying that they're haven't attracted negative comment; the pockets aren't waterproof and they attract cat hair!
I think a pair of rain legs may be in the offing...

The Craghopper Kiwi zippoffs I find a tad heavy & cumbersome for riding any distance, though they're great for foulweather walking. Personally I'd go for the good old Rohan Bags. Light, windproof, quick drying, small pack size for touring & the dark blue ones look reasonably smart after 2 weeks abuse on a camping trip.

My Peter Storm lightweight zip-offs lasted 2 years before my Brooks saddle rivets wore holes in cheeky places.
Pair 2 are wearing the same way - Aldi £15 bargain. Light, quick-drying, sunproof, breathable, windproof.
I think I easily got my money's worth for both pairs.
Keep an eye on Aldi and Lidl is my advice.
