I think if you read my post you'll get the meaning i was trying to portray. It was a counter to the nice and fluffy image of low paid, low skilled working class leave voters that I think PWA was posting about. It may be his experience of them but it is not correct to extend his friend's acceptable Brexit views to all voting that way,

I can honestly say that at work all Brexit supporters argue their case with comments that are either bigoted or so close to it that I felt embarrassed for their foreign colleagues. We have a fair proportion of our shopfloor from eastern Europe. Very hard working in some cases, as lazy as the laziest Brit in others. Mostly they're nice people. But what I find confusing about these brexiters at work is how they separate all these eastern European migrants coming over here for our benefits and those eastern European nationality of the colleagues. The worst for playing the benefits system at work is a English.

So whilst I fully acknowledge the low laid, low skilled can have a wide range of views over the referendum you have to accept there's a lot of negative views getting expressed by some in that category of voters. It.might or might not be the mainstream voice among that the group but denial of it won't get rid of it.

IMHO at the end of this stupid farce, our country needs to take a good, hard and long look at our society and attitudes. The approaches of the two sides. The way the European two sides are able to outright lie about things and continue the lie when found out. Whether project fear, hate, love or panic the two sides were atrocious.

IMHO I believe there should be a law about political information and information from public officials and representatives. They can put out whatever information they like but if it's misleading they must put out a correcting message that's louder to override the misleading comments. If it's proven to be a lie then fines and even worse for the leader of that campaign. Not sure how it would work but IMHO there needs some honesty forced on politicians and public officials beyond a small risk of them having to resign with a tidy pay out.

IMHO recall of MPs, censure of political parties, etc. is needed.

Then after that we need to look at society and where it is broken. It must be broken for death threats and murder to happen during this referendum.

Bizarre indeed considering there isn't an Abbey at Thetford

There is no excuse for bigotry. I think we can all agree on that. The murder of Jo Cox is the act of one nutter. I think the nation stands almost 100% united against threats and violence directed at politicians. Nothing I saw or heard from either side of the Referendum debate made me feel like doing harm to anyone. The person who killed Jo Cox obviously has deep issues of one sort or another, but I'd be surprised if the other residents of his street are not just like us, shocked at his actions. He is a "broken" individual. They have always existed, and probably always will. I don't think I would call society "broken" because it harbours a few such individuals.

Undoubtedly he was in crisis of some form. However my argument is that the referendum went very, very wrong during the campaigning. I think both sides polarised things a lot. That's probably the nature of a binary vote like this.

My issue is that broken, damaged, mentally unstable or just plain criminal aside once you divide a society you'll create "opportunities" for such people to hang their violence on. It may still have happened to Jo Cox without the referendum but I think it did have.a link through the more extreme or divisive campaigning side of this referendum.

I just think we need to learn. Obviously we never learnt much from the Scottish referendum about division. If our society ever has another referendum i sincerely hope we learn to do it better.

I've been cutting the grass, strimming the hedges and banks, pulling up weeds from the paths, and doing two loads of washing ............. and I ate my lunch outside in the sunshine.

Washing back in from the line, bed made, ironing done, and I'm sitting back with a well-earned cuppa feeling sorry for all those folk in SE England with all that rain and storms!

Off out at 15:30 to pick up Mrs Mick F from work, and we'll go into the polling station hand in hand to vote for Leaving the EU. :D
