Hi. I've had a few of these evil things happen over the years and thought they were behind me after having surgery on the L5/S1 a few years back.
Well it happened again recently and now I'm bored out of my mind having to watch others have fun on their bikes.
Very numb leg, weakness, inability to push up from the foot or bend the big toe. It is early days but I can't help thinking that cycling is over for me now.
Has anyone got a similar history but managed to get back cycling? I do have permanent calf nerve damage from my first prolapse many moons ago so a full recovery is out of the question.
Disc prolapse... again
Re: Disc prolapse... again
BTW I'm not depressed about it despite the tone of my initial post as I have come to the conclusion that what will be will be. Would miss the bike though as it does take over our lives doesn't it?

Hi,
My back problems aren't even worth mentioning, I had thrombosis 34 years ago after a medical complication and had to have surgery to correct.
The op left me with numb ankle and now I cannot control my foot properly if I run fast, affects cycling and walking too but manageable.
I do sympathise, you sound very positive despite the knock back.

Re: Disc prolapse... again
I have suffered form Psoriatic Arthritis for about 16 years but new meds meant that I was still able to cycle. Four years ago I rode the Dartmoor Classic but shortly afterwards I noticed a weakening in my legs, this was eventually diagnosed as lumbar spinal stenosis and I had a spinal operation which unfortunately didn't help. I have since been diagnosed with cervical stenosis from C1 through to T1 and degenerative disk disease. The inactivity has meant that I have put on weight and I now also have type two diabetes. I am now waiting for another MRI scan to see if anything else can be done
