Retronyms

A retronym is a new name for something that differentiates the original from a more recent form or version

Are there any "retronymic" words/phrases with respect to a bicycle?

Friction shifting perhaps?

Fixed gear/wheel, single speed, front derailleur, spoon brakes and now mechanical brakes and wired shifting... I suspect there are lots.

Thinking back to my teens when I raced.

The bonk!

The bunch.

Massed start.

Tubs (think they still use them?)

Penny-farthings only started being called "ordinaries" after the safety bicycle was invented, I think.

In the uneducated eye that's real bike as opposed to invalid carriage.

I think of the examples above, only friction shifting and upwrong, or even upright, are actually retronyms. The others are either old terms superseded by newer ones, eg massed start racing is now known as bunch racing or simply road racing, or actually refer to newer things, eg front derailleur to distinguish from the original derailleurs which acted on the back wheel so became rear derailleurs. But I don't think even rear derailleur is a retronym, it's more a specifying term for avoiding ambiguity.

Mechanical shifting, as opposed to electronic, should count.
Delta trike, with the growth in popularity of tadpole trikes.
I suppose square taper bottom bracket to distinguish from newer types but I think that term was in use beforehand.
Quill stem to refer to any threaded steerer.

Only in the modern recumbent world. In the truly upright tricycle world where the delta configuration rules supreme, the terms were Cripper and Kendrick, although these terms have been superseded because people have adopted the American/recumbent terms.
