unfortunately these lubes are 'mostly solvent' and if that doesn't flash off before you use the bike, you are soon left with very little lube and what is there is, is thinned out with solvent residue.
In hot weather the solvent might flash off in a few minutes, but it is usually a much better idea to lube the night before.

True - but I don't have any trouble resulting from that regime. I certainly don't trust that regime if it's gonna be wet - as Brucey says, it just washes off in a mile or two. My bikes are horses for courses - my dry-weather bike hasn't been out this year!
