And if I get drunk enough one day, I might - just might - post a photo of me in Bombay in uniform. Shorts, long socks, looking utterly rediculous.

Oh, those were the days - outback '88.....

Oh yes, on another trip on HMS Invincible back in '86 around Florida, Barbados, Antigua etc, I didn't take my bike but we were were allowed to take motorbikes. I had an 850cc at the time which (I was told) was too big so I took a little 125cc MZ.

Riding through Fort Lauderdale i got pulled over by the Police. Oh dear, what have I done?
Nothing at all. The copper pulled me over to have a look at the bike as he'd never seen one before!

And riding around Antigua was something else.

See, all you tax-payers this is were your hard earned cash went in the 80's!

I guess you missed out on Gulf War I and guess where most of the Tax Payer's money went then.

This is the colour version of sitting on the ketchup, the other one was Black & White.
Better in colour, Red stands out.

Piston broke...er no I think that was 1983. 1973 - was going through my Airfix model phase in my bedroom. Can remember painting the undersides of Hurricanes, Spitfires and Lancaster bomers duck egg blue and struggling to glue the pilot in properly. TV at the time was great with The High Chaperal, Starskey and Hutch. The Rockford files etc. It was a nightmare trying to cycle with those flared trousers which inevitably got chewed up. Happy days

Yup - you're right. Joined up begining of 83, so missed the falklands and handed in 18 months notice start of 88. Left (you guessed it) mid 89 so missed the Gulf as well.

Sorry TC, and others ....

It's an Naval expression. The Dog Watches are part of the Watch System.

The day is divided into watches:
First: 2000 to 2359 (no such thing as 2400 as it could be confused with 0000)
Middle: 0001 to 0400
Morning: 0400 to 0800
Forenoon: 0800 to 1200
Afternoon: 1200 to 1600
First Dog: 1600 to 1800
Last Dog: 1800 to 2000

Note that the Dog Watches are short ......

If ever I decide to attack, I shall do so within a minute either side of midnight.

(Actually, I had an idea what a dog watch was but I didn't realise it meant a short period.)

It's all relative. I did 30 years for my pension. My late grandfather did 52 years in heavy engineering for a gold watch.

Also come straight down from exactly vertically above the ship. They don't have weapons or radars that look straight up! The hard part, is getting into position - straight in from outer-space?
