Which bike?

Hi
Need bike for LE/JOG, occassional commuting and leisure use (towpaths, parks, easy tracks). Newish cyclist so asked advice from two cycling friends - one advised Trek 7200s (app £300) and the other the Marin Sausolito (app £300 more). Who is right or is there another alternative? Both have suspension seatpost and front forks. Tyres, pedals etc can be sorted later. Is price a good indicator and the extra £300 for the Marin is money well spent or is it a little more bike for a lot more money?
Any advice?

Thanks for recommendation - have taken a look and probably looking to spend a little more than this and include some suspension for tracks/towpaths. Am considering Marin San Rafael or Ridgeback Momentum 05 - main concern with Ridgeback is RTS suspension forks which don't have lockout whereas San Rafael has Spinner Odesa LX with lockout.

I think it most unlikely you will find any bike to suit your needs as these are varied and require differing features. Suggest you review your needs and perhaps buy two or more bikes.

whatever you decide to go for, test ride lots of bikes first and then decide on the one you liked the best, to start with don't worry about the name or make of bike, as long as it has good components on it and you liked the way it rode. unless that is of course you want a particular make of bike. for the kind of riding you want to do you would be best with a mountain bike or a hybrid, with some semi slick tyres on it. whatever you do decide on enjoy your cycling.

Robin.
