Hi folks
Staying at Condette between Boulogne and Le Touquet for a few days next month, can anyone recommend some nice routes of about 40 to 50 miles in the area ?
Thanks and regards
Iain

Hi Ianb
Not too sure where you are but maybe the following is of interest
Wiggle runs the French Revolution and French Resistance sportives. They pass north of Boulogne, but the routes might suit you
I was there in July, and I cycled to the War Cemetary in Etaples. Then on to the port of Etaples to see the sea food catch. Over the bridge to the sailing school in Le Touquet for a drink. I stayed in Le Touquet, rode up to Hardelot Plage and did this on they way back
A lovely ride is to cycle out to the old walled town of Montreuil sur Mer, then on to Hesdin, then on to the Agincourt battle field. No need to ride on the main road as some smaller roads run parallel. From memory, that is around 100k.
I'm sure you'll have a great time
Let us know which routes you do
Cheers!

Thanks for the reply, since posting I've ordered a 1:50,000 map with some rides in the area. I too am interested in WW1 history and intend to visit Etaples - I've read stories about the "Bull Ring" training area there as featured in The Monocled Mutineer on TV some time ago Montreuil looks nice and a chateau there was, I believe, the location of the British HQ but i don't know if there's any evidence of this now. I'm going to be there mid sept after a few days in Belgium so I'll let you know how it goes.
Regards
Iain

Hi again!
That's what I did, Belgium followed by Le Touquet!
Where are you going to in Belgium?
Cheers

Re: Boulogne / Le Touquet Area
Staying in Poperinge, I get over there 3 or 4 times a year, great for cycling and beer - what's not to like!! Unfortunately I can't persuade my wife to go otherwise I'd be over there permanently now I'm retired, nice and laid back compared to the rat race of south east England
Re: Boulogne / Le Touquet Area
Every year we ride the "sur les traces de Napoleon randonee".
Basically Le Portel, Boulogne, Wimille (colonne de la grande armee), Wimereux, Ambleteuse, Recques/Course, Montreuil, Etaples, Hesdin L'Abbe, Hardelot - all associated with Napoleon - passing through Condette on the way back to Le Portel. There are plenty of small roads to use. Quite hilly, nice views especially the Course valley.

Re: Boulogne / Le Touquet Area
we stayed at Fort Mahon plage and cycled into Le Touquet, Le Crotoy and also Abbeville, we also stayed at a lovely site on the other side of the Somme Baie called Drancourt. On a ride to Cayeaux sur Mer we were cheered along our route as it was part of that days Tour de Picardie stage
I might still have some of the local maps/guides if you'd like them scanning/posting?

Thanks to all for the replies
Thanks very much for the offer, but I'm pretty much sorted now, got a map with some cycle routes on it which should suffice for the time we're there.
