Mounting rear Moon Nebula light?

Hello!

I've just bought a set of Moon Nebula lights to use on my hybrid. Mounting the front one is dead easy, that's gone on the handlebars but I'm facing a challenge with the rear one.

I've only got short legs so my saddle is quite low. Under my saddle, I have a small bag hanging with tools, inner tube etc so I can't use the under saddle mount. There's not enough space between the bottom of the bag and the mudguard.

The light comes with various things for bolting to tubes but as none of the tubes are vertical, it means the light will be pointing up in the air which seems a bit silly.

Rather than reinventing the wheel, is there any way to mount this rear light so it's not going to dazzle passing aircraft.

Thanks.

There is a picture of one here on a seatstay.

If it was mine I would consider mounting it on the mudguard (that you mention having) near to its rearmost stays.

Thanks.
Yes, I see what you mean about the seatstay but surely it's then pointing almost straight up?

The mudguard I have is more of a mudflap, it's a flap that sits over the top of the wheel, not one which goes all the way round. That would have been easy!

Has anyone found a solution yet?
I too have an under saddle bag that precludes the use of the seat post or saddle rail mounts. Clipped to the bag it points downward & bounces merrily.
No mudguard.
The seat stays are too thin for the universal mount, which would in any case put the light in the rear wheel, when used horizontally.
The universal mount also only adjusts in one direction, seat stays are angled in two directions.
And despite what Moon, and others, claim; the Nebular is designed to be used in the horizontal position (the light spread is not the same when used vertically).
Any ideas out there?

I used a rubber stopper from the bottom of a walking pole. These are £3 for two in Sports Direct. I used a Stanley knife to cut the stopper in half horizontally and then cut a vertical line down one side of the bottom half. I opened the half section up and placed it onto the right hand seatstay then secured it with a zip tie pulled hard with pliers. The light fitting is attached to this rubber stopper which is angled because of its original shape. The angle can be trimmed further with the Stanley knife. I did this two years ago on a temporary basis thinking the fitting would come off or the rubber stopper would slip down. Neither has happened and the bodge job works fine. It will remain there because all the other light fittings I have don't otherwise attach to the stay which is too thin. I had all the problems mentioned above - but quite happy to continue with this makeshift solution.

That sounds like the kind of solution I was expecting, but hoping to avoid !!!
It seems a shame when, what seems like, a nice light; with "mounting hardware is among the most comprehensive", has to be lashed on to the bike with " old bottle tops & sticky back plastic "{Blue Peter reference}.

As I was expecting to part use one of the existing mounts, on a couple of bikes, can anyone tell me if Moon's are compatible with any cheaper mounts - £5-6 + p&p for a £20 light seems a bit steep.
