£200 ish eh?
Subtract the cost of a triple and a front mech and a LH gear leaver system, and it's not so bad perhaps?

It's your round, Mick. Mine's a pint. Of champagne. And get us some of those caviar things while you're at it.

Let's say £250 for an 11p cassette.
How much is a "normal" 11p cassette?
Looks to me that you can spend anything you want, even nearly £250 for Campag Super Record.
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/campagnolo-supe ... tte-12-29/Maybe only £50 or so?

Here you go.

Mmm, good stuff. Have a caviar? They're cheese and onion flavour. Ooh, is that tin titanium?

I ride Trek and Btwin alloy framed bikes, general touring, Sportive and club TT.
Both have single ring 38 tooth chainsets with 8 speed 11 - 30 tooth Shimano cassettes.
Took a while to get there, trial and error, but it's the set up I will stick with.
Works on everything from the "Fast and Flat 100" to the "Ripon Revolution" (very hilly 100 !!! ) sportive routes.
But a damaged carbon frame ... bin it.
Honestly ... your life is worth more than a carbon frame.

Don't think it will cost too much apart from I probably will need a new back wheel!! Still can't decide on a ratio though.

53/42/28 and 12-30
Can you buy 11-50 cassettes?
11-46 for around £70, but you'd also need a compatible derailleur and a 'shiftmate' device to use it with road shifters.

I have a 1x11 setup on my Canyon Inflite, 40T narrow wide chainring on a Sora crankset, sourced from Superstar Components for £15. The rear mech is a medium cage Shimano 105, with an 11-36 Sram cassette. The rear mech just clears the biggest ring with the B screw all the way in.

Is that a serious question?

I run my 1x11 using a 44T single and an 11-36 cassette, which gives me plenty range. I recycled an old SRAM chainset off a single speed and bought a second hand 5800 11 speed shifter on eBay for £40.
All in it cost me about £100. Total weight saved over a triple/front mech/left hand STI and cables is about 440gr. It does ride very well, and with the single chainring the chain line is brilliant. I'd not go back to a 30 gear 'monster' willingly!

Or there's always SRAM's
10-50 12-speed (part of the
XO1 Eagle groupset (or an even
more expensive XX1 setup)!
