"Pub Bikes"

Post by landsurfer »

Planet X, my LBS, advertises a pub bike, a bike for nipping to the shops.
Holdsworth frame .... ish ... wheels and other bits top quality ...£299 delivered.
It's actually a brilliant single speed winter bike.
I love mine, just nice to ride....
Have a look on their website.

couldn't find it - tried a frames listing with lowest price first, then a search for pub. No luck on my computer.

I have a shop bike. Same sort of thing...I use it for going the shop ( for beer or wine mostly). Its a steel early 90s MTB I got given by a neighbour.
I don't lock it, and it gets left outside behind a tree in the garden overnight regularly.

I have a load of mates in my cycling club who never ride a bike in anything but full Lycra.

I'm new to all this, but if I was asked what makes a Pub Bike, it would have to be a three wheeler - so you don't fall off after having a skinfull.

Unnecessary - in my irresponsible youth, I learnt that I could still ride a bike when I was too drunk to walk.

Have you tried an upright racing trike? Difficult enough stone cold sober without a lot of practice IME!

I think he means the Holdsworth La Quelda, which - thanks to Planet X's now-you-see-it-now-you-don't pricing policy - is £399 today but may well have been £299 yesterday. Tomorrow it'll probably be £699 but accompanied by a "50% off all bikes" discount code; the day after, who knows?

Ah yes - I did wonder, and it looks a good bike (though very upright angles). The Yo-Yo pricing of PX is quite something. I got a rack bag last week (it's very good!) Went from £20, to £12(when I pounced) to £20 again

Ah, but they currently have "25% OFF EVERYTHING (except bikes) FOR THE NEXT 4 YEARS (or the end of November anyway)" so it's actually £15. Do try to keep up... :D

I bought 2 stems recently for £8 each. They are now £30 so with 25% off the full price is £40. I'm not sure whether they were advertised as 80% off when I bought them, but they may have been. I can't keep up.

Ah - the go faster feature you mean. Every bike has to have that nowadays so you ride as fast as possible in order to get off the bike as soon as possible. :(

Hmm, pub bike and new I can't quite ratify. Isn't a rat bike, ideally painted matt black with a brush, the most suitable steed....
