Smidsy videos - are insurance companies interested?

Post by BobSweet »

Does anyone know if the Insurance companies have been approached to see if they are interested in the videos we take of dangerous drivers?

I'd have thought that if they were even slightly interested, they would have set up and publicised a system for receiving that type of material. In the absence of anything like that, I assume they are not interested.

If it takes a bit of effort insurance companies aren't bothered about much until it comes to paying out.

I know that many people with really bad driving record don't bother with insurance but there are also lots that fill out the on-line form stating that their car that has aftermarket exhaust, tinted windows, lowered suspension etc has no modifications. They state they have no or possibly just three points on their licence just to get an insurance certificate. It's not until they have an accident that the insurance company checks so they can look for a way of not paying out. I don't think they would pay anyone to look at videos sent in by cyclist all day.

If it happens in Sussex (East or West) you could report it here on the the police "Operation Crackdown" site. However I don't know if you can post videos.
