Quoted in the above Rochdale Herald link:
"....but we are liasing with Swedish authorities...."
Now - trying hard to remember my school geology lessons - 'Lias' is the name for a group of limestones, shales, etc. lying in the upper Triassic and lower Jurassic. Not heard the word used as a verb, but no doubt one could be coined - presumably meaning "to dig in the Lias deposits", presumably in search of dinosaurs and the like.

I'm glad to learn that the delectable Kellyanne has got her priorities right.... evidently the administration is in dire need of more and more dinosaurs. As if it hasn't got enough already!

Five shootings in 2 weeks in a city of 300,000 people.

A murder rate three times that of London.

London has a higher proportion of its population born abroad. Malmö could solve its problems by importing more foreigners.

On the other hand, perhaps narrow statistics aren't very instructive.

Reuters obviously thinks that the situation in Malmo is newsworthy.

It is good to see the Americans worrying about all that gun-crime caused by foreigners in Sweden.
I hope they are all cancelling their trips to dangerous Sweden and staying safely at home.

It is newsworthy. It doesn't need to be distorted, misrepresented, and magnified to fit Trump's weird agenda.

To me the worrying aspects to this are:

a. Trump seems to be getting his information from Fox News. Is it right that the US President is using the very press he attacks so strongly over their "Fake News" as the source of his knowledge about what is happening in the world ?

The TV channel ran a clip of a film by Ami Horowitz on Friday that alleged Sweden had seen a surge in gun violence and rape following an influx of immigrants.

Yet Mr Horowitz's documentary has been criticised for being riddled with inaccuracies. One Swedish terrorism expert told The Independent the film "grossly exaggerated" the amount of crime in the country and wrongly conflated drug violence in Swedish cities with crime perpetrated by refugees.

b. That Trump's supporters seem so prepared to believe anything he says, without question and without seeking out any confirmation.

c. That when demonstrated to have been wrong, Trump (and his team) will not admit his failing but instead just refuses questions and accuses the media of being dishonest about him and writing Fake News. All they do is to try and find any sort of ludicrous reasons why Trump is right (even if those reasons are quite untrue).

Trump merely mentioned that something happened in Sweden and left the rest to imagination or research. You do appear to be conceding that indeed something did happen and that Trump was not after all spreading false news about a made-up event. He was just doing standard practice politicians' spin, which has had political interviewers trying to pin down politicians to specific points for decades now.

In Trumps speech he specified a time for the event Trump told supporters: “We’ve got to keep our country safe. You look at what’s happening in Germany, you look at what’s happening last night in Sweden.”.

From above (when press set about finding about what did happen in Sweden at that time

But then when "pulled-up" of trumps fiction they tried to change it to
The White House has said Donald Trump was speaking about general “rising crime” when he seemed to describe a non-existent terror attack in Sweden on Saturday night, as the president defended his ideas about banning refugees and travel from seven Muslim-majority countries.

Except that the number of murders in Sweden has remained pretty constant over the last 30 years despite the population increasing (so the rate is actually declining).

And Trump is the one accusing everybody (that disagrees with him) or being "Fake News".

Malmö has a number of unique problems, and has had a reputation for high crime, from long before the recent refugee crisis.

Much of the problem occurs because it is a geographic bottleneck. Furthermore, it is generally easier to drive over the bridge from Denmark with drugs, weapons, and other contraband, than to take them on ferries, where vehicles may undergo checks intended to prevent terrorist attacks and smuggling.

Much of the violence is down to organised crime, and a significant proportion of that is cross-border crime.

I'm conceding nothing. It's always been obvious that not everything that comes out of Trump's mouth is a complete lie. There are truths mixed with half-truths, misrepresentations and outright lies.

In this case, he cited something that happened in Sweden the night before, and followed it with a list of terrorist attacks elsewhere. Then, on Twitter, he pulled out the Malmö story - even though it isn't something that 'happened' on Friday. The most generous thing I could say is that he is blabbing on about half-remembered things he has seen on telly the previous night. But I think you are stretching things when you say that he 'merely mentioned something'. I notice the term 'merely mentioned' is most often used to excuse S%%%-stirring.

There you go, yet again, with your fact based rational analysis.

What this kind of problem really needs is a knee jerk response based on nothing more than personal prejudice and a smattering of familiarity with Fox News headlines.

Yes and he is playing these tricks that you describe, just as all the ones before him did.
As do many of our politicians.
