Majorca

Post by chalky »

I am sure this has come up before, but I would like some suggestions or recommendations on where to stay that is not one of these large impersonal hotels. I think maybe Alcudia/Can Picafort or close by would be ideal. We have cycled in Majorca before taking our own bikes and moving on, but my wife is now not able to do this but would happily cycle on flattish roads while I (some of the time) will go towards the hills. We thought we would hire bikes as I understand it is easy to do in Majorca instead of the hassle of taking our own.

We stop in one of 'the largest' hotels on the Island but it is certainly not impersonal as the staff are great, treat us like old friends, etc.

We recently stayed at apartments Acapulco in C'an Picafort.

Either way Port Pollensa - Alcudia - Ca'n Picafort is certainly a good base for flattish cycling and access to hills if that is what you want. We have also had members of the group who have stayed at the bottom of a climb while others have climbed it; San Salvador, Cura/Randa, Santa Magdalena would fit into these categories.

An alternative base might Cala Bona / Cala Millor and we found the Alicia to be an excellent hotel.

We have also stayed at the Uyal at Port Pollensa, a lovely hotel as it is an older 'traditional' style building.

Whichever hotel i have stayed i have never found them impersonal.

Another area to consider is Ca'n Pastilla / S'Arenal. There is a flat cycle route all around the bay to Palma. Several flat rides out to the north and east, and Soller / Orient is do-able if you want some climbing.

Hi
I went cycling to Majorca for the first time in october last year.
We decided on Port de Pollenca (as my friend had been many time before)It has a lovely small town vibe about it.
We stayed at Hotel Capri which is a lovely small hotel right by the lovely beach and promenade(loads of restaurants nearby).
Very reasonable and friendly staff. They allowed us to keep bikes in the room.
There are a few bike shops too which is handy.
Rides-
We road to Cap formentor light house 2-3hr round trip (stunning ride,up and down)
You can also get to Sa Calobra and back 4-5hrs round trip
If you want a flatter route, just head along the coast past Alcudia

Where ever you go you'll love it. Cycling heaven !!

Can you say what sort of price range were you looking to pay for a hotel and when you where going?

I can recommend Max Huerzeler for bike hire.
