Does anyone know of bike retailers that participate in the VAT Retail Export Scheme?

I am coming from Australia and wish to buy a bike and take it out of the EU. My understanding is that I can only get a refund of VAT if the retailer participates in the scheme. I telephoned one well known retailer, who shall remain nameless, to be told "it is a f..... pain in the a...".

but i am led to believe that the uk isnt the cheapest place in europe for bike kit . It might be worth your while to stop off in another european country on your return. Depends what you want and how much youre spending.

I need to buy the bike in the UK as I am going on a tour. I am researching second hand at the moment so VAT will not be a consideration.
