Hi,
I'm taking early retirement next month and intend to cycle (mountain bike) the canal from the Liverpool end. I'm thinking of 3-4 days leasurly pedalling and am taking my camping stuff on panniers.
Anyone already done it? Any tips? Places to camp (don't mind "wild" camping)?

Hi Jez
I live by the canal a couple of miles from the leeds end. I often ride as far as Bingley to access a favourite mountain bike route and i'm pretty sure there's nothing between Leeds and Bingley. I wouldn't wild camp so close to the leeds/bradford connurbation myself.
There's a couple of sites around Skipton so maybe Skipton to Leeds would be a good last day?
Also have a look at
www.waterscape.com the british waterways leisure activities site.
Good Luck! dave

Thanks for the advice - as you will prob gather it was my first post onto your site so thanks for not being smartar*es.
Already found the canal website and seen lots of pics but couldn't find anything on camping locations. Given that the first half will, I imagine, be rather built up I was just trying to determine how far I'd have to cycle on the first couple of days to pitch tent "safely". Guess I'll just have to do it and take pot luck - all the more fun perhaps!
Got my waterways permit so I'll let you know how I get on (presuming I survive that is!!).
