I have been looking for overnight digs for Friday 1st of September near to the Ferry Port prior to our trip down to Santander. There seems a few twin Rooms only for about £45 , but I can't get any info on cycle security. we're not bothered about breakfast as we'll get food on the ferry but we won't leave our bikes at risk. Does anyone know if the Hostel at Southsea is still operating ?, I've phoned a few times but it just keeps ringing and the Web page says no bookings at present. I know our trip is a long way off but I like to gets some things sorted early. Comments, ideas, cheers T.

What places are you looking at, I believe some of the chain hotels allow bikes in rooms. Have you tried warmshowers? Can you contact the hotels directly and ask about bike security?

Hostel at Southsea appears to be gone. There's still a sign up but the building appears to be under going renovation.

How about a University hall of residence? Rees Hall in Southsea is a quarter of an hour's flat ride from the ferry terminal, it's cheap, and apparently it has a lock-up cycle compound (best to check this with them!). Your date is more than 2 weeks before term starts so I imagine they'll still be doing B&B at that time.

Best prices if booked well in advance, but there are a lot of Travelodge / Premier Inn in the immediate area
I have never had a problem taking bikes or trikes into the rooms of these
There is a Travelodge adjacent to the Ferry Port with a subway to get you there.
Alternatively there are a lot of budget places around the Fratton and University areas, both of which have easy access to the ferry port
This map may be of use when planning

Thanks for the help guys regarding the above, i'v just booked a room only on the ground floor at Travel Lodge, Hilsea. £45 for two. Very helpful receptionist [Emma] said we can take our bikes into the room. Similar room at the university is £65. So we can get a meal and a pint near to the ferry the night before we travel, Brill. Only another 21 nights to sort out now. Thanks again. T.

The Green Farm Toby Carvery next door is fantastic but very popular so a reservation for an evening meal is a good idea.
