Helmets in Majorca

Post by chalky »

Is it a law in Majorca to wear a cycle helmet? Or - is it like mainland Spain where you needn't wear one if hot, going up a steep hill, in a city etc. A complicated law I feel. What my wife calls a steep hill, is a slope to me, who decides what is hot etc. etc. Anyone had a problem when not wearing one?

Rules as Spanish. I hate my helmet with a vengeance and carry it with me... every so often when the season starts the Police have a crack down, other times I have ridden past police and not a blind bit of notice is taken.
Most of the big groups all wear helmets but have seen increasing numbers of riders without in recent years. Lots of riders around towns; children, mums, dads, grandparents etc are all out with no helmets.

I do sweat a lot when cycling uphill in spring or summer, yet a good helmet has never been an issue for me as far as ventilation.
Then, of course, there are cheap helmets...

To wear or not wear, depends on the law, and is a different issue
It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best,
since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.
Thus you remember them as they actually are...

Topic has been split; the helmet / safety discussion has been moved to the ghetto. viewtopic.php?f=41&t=113739&p=1118427#p1118427

Please leave this thread for the discussion of helmet requirements/enforcement in Majorca that the OP asked about.

Thanks.
