Now if you Remainers start threatening me with reintroduction of Imperial measurements I may have to rethink leaving the EU. I like Metric.

No need to choose, one may use both

Just like being bilingual, a big plus :P

LBS and lbs and GBP? I am confused

What about the bike parts, are they all metric now, what about *half-inch* chains?

What an ominous date!

29. March 1912: Robert Falcon Scott was trying to get back from the south pole, he noted in his diary: *We have no energy left. The end cannot be far away*

Amundsen got back home to Norway.

He obviously made some wise decisions, a trait that is shared by his later compatriots who decided not to join the EU.

You're right for once. They decided to join the single market with free movement of people etc.

And still pay for it without any voting rights on the regulations. Got something right for sure.

On March 29th I will be providing a taxi service for my daughter, as usual. I must also remember to check the trap in the garden to see if I've caught the giant rat I had a close encounter with yesterday. And I'll probably be the one to make the evening meal that we call "tea". No champagne, or tearing out of hair. Just normal life going on.

You cant be down to having to eat rats already, we havent even left yet.
Another few years before we get to that point.

It could happen sooner rather than later if we fail to kowtow to the EU and do as it wishes as we exit.

Juncker and his EU lackeys could have EU submarines blockading the UK within months leading to food shortages.

And shortages of VW spare parts too.

Less trade could be a Good Thing

If it were harder to import and export a lot of energy would be saved

UK could quite easily be self-sufficient for everyday foods. In WW2 lots of poorer land was used to grow oats, potatoes etc. Could easily be done again

"good less trade" got me thinking, but this isn't a response to that post... *and this is a pretty long post considering the fact i'm changing the subject after saying nothing for a while... bit ignorant that*.

you know what i sympathise with, from the supporters of brexit here and the trump voters that give me a better example.

low skilled work and the huge demand for it.

i saw an article criticising trump's isolationist policies like penalties for companies that outsource work. WHAT? so rather than have some chinese guy sweat away in a factory that had to install safety nets to stop him finishing early, you want somebody in a country with decent workers rights to make it, and you're happy to pay for it? don't let me stop you.

and often when i argue and argue and argue with a brexiter or a trump voter, it turns out that's what they want. it's not racist, or xenophobic... it's not even remotely right wing...

so when the left attack him for it... it doesn't add up. all the other criticisms, yeah, i've got nothing, they're sound.

and when i think of the anti-immigrant rhetoric from the right, well the left isn't much better i'm afraid. alright the left accepts that people have a right to settle here, but the right not to be exploited by landlords and employers isn't so important, and the plights of existing low skilled workers and flat renters go ignored. that's gotta be the most right wing thing i can think of... and it seems all this racism and xenophobia could have been avoided.

all these deeply conflicting ideologies seem to give each other excuses to survive.

You cannot change the laws of physics

But the laws of economy.. It could be very good if less trade was done. Right now transport and importexport are so cheap and easy goods are made at A, stored at B, sold at C. GB could be self-sufficient
