I am undertaking a tour across france this spring and I am now looking at all the various things that need to be arranged and have come across insurance:

Is there specific bike insurance available? if so where can I get it/average costs etc,
I need the bike insured on the continent does this make a difference,
Can anyone recommend a deal/ their own experiences?
Otherwise I have found it very difficult trying to add my bike onto my house and contents insurance, and I am very dubious to set off without my bike being covered,

Hope someone can help me with this, many thanks

CTC do cycle specific insurance.

Annual travel insurance is included in my bank charge so I generally use that. (and it came good when I had a bit of a fall in the alps). Only problem is it doesn't cover you if your trip goes higher that 2000 metres, so if mine does I use CTC.

If you are going on a tour you need to have insurance for your bike and travel insurance for yourself just incase anything goes wrong and you have a illness or an accident.

We have used just normal travel insurance in the past, but when we nearly had to use it in Norway one year when I hurt my back, we found out that they would repatriate us but not our bikes.

The only insurance that will repatriate you and your bikes is the CTC insurance, as long as you take take out there bike insurance as well. This actually didn't work out that much more expensive than other companies. We took out there annual cover and it includes 15 days winter sports cover as well.
