soft roof top boxes ?

Post by CyberKnight »

We will need a roof box of some sort for holidays as our new car has a bit smaller bootand growing kid s, fine for 51 weeks a year but not for full on take the kitchen sink mrs ck packs for hols.
It would only have stuff like beach chairs, towels etc so not high value items.
Has anyone any experience of fabric material foldable roof boxes ? would be a 200 mile trip each way on mostly motorways.

A small trailer might be a good alternative
Entertainer, juvenile, curmudgeon, PoB, 30120
Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

I had thought about it but its not viable option given the cost of the tow bar and trailer .

Thule do one. I have one unused, bought several years ago in anticipation of needing to use it.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Roof-Racks-B ... B00FB7NFMW

I don't know if mine is that exact model, as it may have changed in minor details, but it's your for a reasonable donation to charity if you are able to collect it from South Leeds just off J27 M62.

PS It's in the bag as illustrated. It's been out of the bag once to see how it went on the roof, but as I wrote above, it was never needed. It went back in the bag and it's still in there, cluttering up the garage.

PPS Re your question about the fabric, I'd say it's typical Thule quality ie top notch.

My kids hated the roof top box but it made the "are we nearly there yet?" wails inaudible at speeds over 100 kph.
Have we got time for another cuppa?

Having seen the vid and remembered how it fits, I'll make sure I can find the clamps. I know there in there, as they say, but I can't order them to come out with their hands up. I'll dig them out and come back to you.

Edit..

That's very kind of you ck.

I'd have to check if it fits as some places say my bars are too close together and some say it would fit
So it might lol

Thanks

Speaking as a former Berlingo owner, that's just one thing to add to my list of reasons not to have one, although plenty of others wouldn't agree with me.

Just the two, feet of A beside head of B & vice versa. The dog was pleased, it got the whole back seat to spread out on.

I'm not into distance selling - too much hassle. On the basis that if this were a tad smaller it would have gone to a charity shop years ago, if you make a donation to charity - all of which I'll leave to you, you can have it. As I thought there were no current takers, I've not bothered finding the brackets. I'm just going out doing grandad's taxi now, but I'll look later. I'm confident I have the brackets, not confident of their hereabouts in a very messy garage.

OK thanks very much I'd like to donate to the fire service benevolent fund if that's OK with you. Let me know if you dig out the brackets, thanks
