Bicycle journey from scotland to far eastern russia sponsori

Post by Adam »

Hi There, I was Wondering if any one could help
us? My brother and i are cycling to the
furthest point of east Russia(Magadan) from
the UK(Scotland) in feb 2007, We are
sponsoring UNICEF, We are going to visit 2 of
there offices in ukraine and mongoliato see
what they do for the children. We will travel
through 9 countries in total and a few of
them are some remote places, i.e. Kazakstan,
Mongolia and Eastern Russia. We were
wondering if it would be possible to have
some helpsponsorshipinfo for our journey. We
have our mountainbikes and some equipment for
camping etc but we still have a lot to get,we
will have to upgrade parts of our bike to
withstand the journey and get panniers etc.
Any help, if possible would be greatly
apeciated.

Kindest Regards, Adam Taylor

There is one thing; I have been researching the route you told me about and you will have no trouble understanding them in Mongolia.... it is a US English script (ie Latin character set) so you will understand every word... in Mongolian!

This website has a pretty good outline of your route, but not thru Germany.

One thing you will have to pedal hard to keep warm. In a way that kind of cycling is more suitable to the machine itself, as long as you have got the roads to do it. When I did some reallly cold weather cycling in the Uk spome years ago I nearly got frost bite in my ballcock,
very painful. There are some thermal underwears which are good.

Adam,
I have since seen
Natalie Schaffer's Travel channel
Film of her trip from Beijing to London using the Gobi desert (amazing!)and the Road of Bones.
Lots of camping to do and myriad mosquitos up that way.

If you have not seen it, it is worth watching out for that film, the best cycling documentary/journal I have ever seen.

Somehow she carried the video camera on top of her panniers bags as she went along, so there were a good many pics of an attractive butt
and her journey evidence was there to see!

Adam, When you're coming through the Scottish Borders, I would be willing to help with some grub and drinks etc (it would save you buying and carrying the stuff on that day at least) and to cycle along too for moral support, if you like.

I'll look up Natalie Schaffer on travel channel co.
It is a must if you have not seen it, showing up the
South to north bit over on the far side!!!
She got very depressed by it, filming herself in tears.
I know exactly how she felt, on a lesser ride!
