What is this Land-escape tandem worth?

Post by Dave W »

Ball park figure, I'm aware it's only worth what someone will pay for it. Todays framesets seem to be around £1800 and are slightly different. I'm thinking of selling it as the Stoker seems to have lost interest. It's in very good condition with BB7 discs. I just haven't a clue where to price it. P

Can't work out the parts or the quality of the frame but at best half new price. As its of limited appeal maybe less. Age will put people off as its not a classic. That price for the F&F? Must have a niche following if you can find it.
All guess work based on experience though.

Failing that E Bay will tell you what the Market Price is.

shimano components have date marks on them which may help to identify the exact age of the machine. Likewise the manufacturer may be able to date the machine from the frame number. Not that a year or two either way will make much difference price-wise.

Tandems are weird things to sell. I think the price you will get will vary with how much of a hurry you are in to get rid of it.

cheers

Landescape do 2 types of aluminium frame, custom built (Czeck republic) and off the peg Chinese ones (your is the Chinese one - we have one, does to job competently enough).
I saw these frames on E bay (shop in Shropshire?) some time back, trying to sell them for about £1800, one of my LBS in Oxford who do or did sell Landescape tandems sold the cheaper built up model from approx the same price (Acera rear gear sort of level - more Dawes Discovery 201 level that Dawes Galaxy level).
I would say £1800 for the (new) bike is more the right level, and £1800 for the frame only is having your brexit and eating it.
I always recon 1/2 rrp gets you a fair chance to sell something in good condition.

There is also a tandem wanted in the wants section, viewtopic.php?f=33&t=114079, not sure if yours fits the bill/price etc

Open to correction, but I think so.
The Czech ones are the "made to measure" with "All the welds on these tandem frames are filed for a beautiful smooth finish" (from Landescape's website).
The Chinese (I think) - possibly Taiwan (which is China to some!) - have the usual unfiled welds that most aluminium bike frames have.
Certainly the welds on my frame are not filed smooth. I think I saw the "made in" bit on the box (now gone), the frame has designed in UK (by Pete Bird).
Open to correction on the Chinese bit, but that is my recollection.
There certainly are 2 different level of weld finish frames (I've seen both finishes). My frame is the same as yours, colour and all, and came in set sizes (mixes of s/m/l). The weld in one of your photos is definately not filed smooth (like mine). My welds are certainly not bespoke Czech engineering finish!
The whole Czech frame price is from £1795 on the Landescape website. I got my frame at mates rates, and the shop would have lost money big time if they had sold an £1800 frame at the price I paid....... - and that is before allowing for the eccentric/headset/seat posts/handle bar stems that came in with the price.
Sorry to disappoint you (but then again, if it's cheaper, probably easier to sell!).

The first design frame was made in Malaysia. It was designed by Pete Bird, formerly, and now again, proprietor of Swallow bicycles. He got the inspiration for the Landescape frame and how to get it manufactured whilst employed revising Dawes tandem range, following the demise of the original Swallow cycles through which he supplied many custom built tandems.

No, not disapointed I just hadn't heard where they were produced before. I had it in the back of my mind it was always Eastern Europe. It's been a good bike the only problem I had was mounting the front disc caliper I seem to remember. I ended up filing a little metal off the mount to get the caliper in the right place.Ebay seems to be flooded with Tandems at the moment, mostly very old or poor quality.
