Where to buy small Shimano spares?
Where to buy small Shimano spares?
Just noticed the silver cap on one of my hydraulic shifters has flown off somewhere. Is there anywhere these bits can be sourced?
Re: Where to buy small Shimano spares?
Search Shimano's website for the model number and see the parts list, then search the web for the part number to try to find a supplier.
MJR, mostly pedalling 3-speed roadsters. KL+West Norfolk BUG incl social easy rides http://www.klwnbug.co.uk

Re: Where to buy small Shimano spares?
SJS have had bits like that in the past.
Re: Where to buy small Shimano spares?
Should be available through any decent local bike shop - try Yellow Pages!
Convention? what's that then?

Re: Where to buy small Shimano spares?
In the past I've either gone to the LBS or sourced the part from the internet myself. Last time I went to the LBS they wrote down the part number for me and told me it would be cheaper for me to trawl the internet myself!
Having the part number helps with finding an online shop that sells the part. Shimano techdocs or SRAM service webpages is a good starting point (assuming they are the manufacturer).

Re: Where to buy small Shimano spares?
Find the exploded view PDF for the component in question on the Shimano tech-doc website. The part number and official name of the part, if separately available, will be listed there. Take that to any bicycle shop that can order Shimano parts (most of them) or search SJS Cycles, the little French shops, the big German shops, eBay, etc., with a variety of spellings (e.g. with and without the spaces and hyphen in the part number).
Sadly, these small parts are getting more expensive, less available (from both Shimano and dealers), and earlier discontinued. I suppose the economies of scale get grimmer as cyclists keep things for ever-shorter periods of time before dumping them for something shinier.

Re: Where to buy small Shimano spares?
FWIW I find the present shimano tech docs site incredibly annoying to use; it takes ages to load and sends my computer for a loop, consuming vast quantities of memory and CPU time for no good reason. It isn't even complete, anyway...
Fortunately you don't have to use that site as the interface. Just type
" (your model number) EV techdoc"
into a decent search engine and you will soon come up with a direct link to the correct document.
When then searching for the part number, you can delete the first and last digits, and as Samuel suggests, try various different syntax for the middle of the PN, including;
- space
- no space
- dash
etc
SJS are pretty good, also any shimano dealer should be able to order the parts from Madison, but they don't always have everything and it is sometimes quicker and easier to buy stuff from Germany instead.
hth
cheers
