Can anyone help with a parking space ( street parking will do) in Portsmouth.... within reasonable cycling distance of the Brittany Ferry port? My wife is taking me cycling in France for a few weeks in June and we are driving down from Manchester and hoping to leave the car.

You can park in the multi story at the terminal. It used to be £10 a day. Or, use parkinmydrive.co.uk which is cheaper.

Similar to that above,
https://www.justpark.com/ shows dozens of places in Portsmouth. I have used a couple. Put in your dates and see if one in Derby Road is available. This is a locked yard at the rear of a church. I have booked it this year because it is cheaper than some and a charitable cause. It is about half a mile from the cross channel ferries.

I would suggest changing title, to car parking Portsmouth.... I clicked on the subject expecting to see a completely different question, you might get more hits and replies?

I parked on the street, on one of the roads on the north side of Havant Road.
The sort of place where everyone's got a driveway, but multiple cars and car shuffling mean that many of them leave a car on the road.

^^^ that's Havant Road on the mainland not Havant Road on the island which is a road of terraced houses. As an ex Portsmouth resident and still a visitor I would advise against street parking on the island because it is the most densely populated part of England and of course every terraced house has to accommodate at least 2 motor vehicles. Hence dense parking, dodgy and illegal parking is pretty normal. Even 20 years ago I knew people who had negotiated special working hours so that they could get home before the street in which they lived filled up.

Treat yourself to a night in a hotel. I think I stayed at the Portsmouth Hilton. From there it was a short (20mins) ride to the ferry. Beware of Portsmouth taxi drivers though - complete maniacs. The hotel was very good and allowed parking free for 1 week.
