Fitting new BB
Fitting a new Tange sealed BB to my Bakfiets longjohn - both ends screw in ok separately but put them in together and the spinf=dle becomes very stiff to turn. Looks like the main part goes in slightly off center and so gets stressed and stiff when the left side end cap is screwed on. I have found an alternative end cap that fits little easier but the spindle is still graunchy. I have to fit this particular bottom bracket as it has been adapted to allow the fitting of the Efneo GTRO gear box. I am also a but stuck for going back to the original bottom bracket as it's end caps were made of plastic and were quite stiff so that the removal tool rather chewed one up.
Re: Fitting new BB
As you suspect, the bottom bracket threads are cut incorrectly, so they don't line up perfectly.

Re: Fitting new BB
I always fitted the left cup most of the way in first.
Then fitted the drive side which was guided in by the left cup. Finally tighten the left cup.
Whether it makes any difference but you could try this.

The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

I was trying that with the original LH cup without success, could be worth trying with the substitute cup that seems to fit a little better.
