I work for Cambridge University during exam periods, mostly at the Concert Hall in West Road. This morning I decided to drive the five miles to the Concert Hall, I started at 8.15 to allow for the traffic tailback to be on duty at 8.45. I hit the tailback near Madingley roundabout (2.5 miles). It then took 30 minutes to cover 2.5 miles and I arrived at 8.50. 5 miles/hour, it would be quicker by bike.

Living in the nations capital this sounds quite normal to me.

A while back I was travelling to my home down a main road that passes a football stadium when there was a match on.

When I got home I heard on the radio that traffic was taking 90 minutes to get down that road, I'd just done it in 20!!!!

Smug :D

you should also add on the time taken to earn the money needed to fund the extra cost of motoring, the time spent on exercise in order to maintain your physical wellbeing after you've finished driving (or else knock of an equivalent amount to represent the shortening of your active life) and the time taken to earn the cost of gym subs if thats what grabs you.
