BikeMate track pump

Post by chalky »

Has anyone used a Aldi BikeMate track pump No. 63799. I have had it sometime and it has never really worked. It wont seem to pump up tyres with old type high pressure valves. The pump jumps off before tyre gets hard enough to ride. Am I doing something wrong?
Also what are the two little blue/grey bits in the handle for?

Can you post a picture of the head and handle, please? I can't find the manual for it online.

If it's a push-on head with two holes and you're putting the Presta valve into the smaller hole, you then need to use the lever to clamp it on (probably flip to right angles from the hose to lock, although some SKS pumps go the other way).

If it's a push-on head with one hole and it works fine on Schrader (car) valves, you may need to unscrew and reverse internal parts, but if you still need to do car valves, it may be easier to get a cycle pump extension hose with adapter for about £2 from a car spares shop and just use the adapter.

Either way, it's a good idea to tap the end of a Presta valve after undoing the little nut, just to make sure it's not stuck closed, else sometimes it'll need very high pressures before the valve opens for the first time.

I had one and it clapped out quite soon after purchase. Luckily, I'd kept the receipt and my local Aldi refunded the price in full without quibble. Those grey plastic things are accessory nozzles for blowing up beach balls, inflatable mattresses etc.

To be honest, pumps like those are cheaply made and very poor quality. You'd be much better off spending a bit more on a good quality one like this: http://www.sks-germany.com/en/products/airworx-10-0-silver/, which can be had for around £25 if you shop around.

I bought an Aldi pump as a back-up but also find it difficult to get the head to stay on. I find the "trigger" awkward to get to click over properly. When it does stay on it works O.K.
Won't buy another but would consider changing the head for a better one.

I have one, its my first track pump, it works well though the lever for attaching the chuck to the presta valve seems illogical, place the chuck onto the valve with the lever in the down position, then lift the lever to lock on, this seems backwards to me, but it works fine.

Thanks for messages. The problem is that as soon as a little air goes in the head pops off. it does appear to be locked on to start with.

It sounds like your valve attachment is knackered or at least worn. I had a similar problem with a cheapo footpump I used to have. I would attach it to the valve, lock it on then after a few pumps it would blow off. I could sometimes get round it by pushing it down on the valve very hard before locking it.

I recently bought a new Bikemate track pump on a whim in Aldi. Biggest annoyance is I paid about £13 only to see them advertised in their next bike fest for 5 or 6 quid.

Nonetheless, it seems to work OK, I use Schraeder valves, but only go to about 55psi max. The locking on the valve attachment is secure, but a bit difficult. You put it on the valve then turn a a very stiff collar on the attachment which locks it. This is fiddly and tends to put unnecessary pressure on the valve stem.

Had it a couple of months now, but only used it a few times, so can't comment on longevity, etc. However, part of the reason I bought it was because it had a 3 year guarantee. I have kept receipts, etc. I shall see.

I've got the 92076 version and have no problems with it on either presta or schrader valves. I only go up to about 80psi max. Never tried it at anything higher.
