The Map Shop at Upton on Severn (Google for website) - they have IGN (the French OS) in various scales

Or if you are thinking of the Velodysee there are two volumes of guidebook (in French) that incorporate quite good maps that are perfectly sufficient. See here

Stanfords both online and at their very excellent Haymarket shop in London. They have maps and guides to everywhere.

I get my maps from the map shop in Upton on Severn.
As for maps, you'll want either 4 regional maps, for Aquitaine, Poitou-Charentes, Pays de la Loire and Bretagne.
Michelin (1:200k 524,521,517 and 512)
IGN (1:250k R15, R11, R07, R06)
These all have quite a bit of overlap between sheets
Or alternatively, maps from the IGN 1:100k series. You'll need about 10 of these, depending on the route you take.
These have no or minimal overlap between sheets.
There's also the Michelin 1:200k road atlas.
Pages from this is probably the least packing bulk option.
Bear in mind that the local maps are readily available in France.
I tend to use 1:200k or 1:250k, supplemented with a GPS for detail in towns etc.

Agree but it's in Long Acre, Covent Garden.
(unless they have opened a new one)

I've found dash4it.com useful - low prices and my maps usually arrive next day (particularly the UK OS ones)
I've also found the English pages on the IGN website informative

Domain name 'parked' and in any case seems to be for computer services.

I recently bought an IGN map of the Haut-Jura from here.I bought it via Amazon. It's 1:75000(1cm-750m) with 1:25000(1cm-250m) "zooms" of secenic walks. For Cycling 1:75000 is probably a bit over kill but they do 1:100000 and 1:200000 also.
I have a couple of 1cm-1.5km Michellin Maps that Keycamp used to send out(those days are gone) and they're also more than adequate for cycling.

Both Stanfords and the Upton on Severn Map Shop have been mentioned. Stanfords are much larger and are better-known, but having used them for many years I've always found the Map Shop superb. For a start its website is much more user-friendly (the over-fussy Stanfords site can take ages to track down anything out-of-the-way); and anything ordered from the Map Shop always arrives without fail the next day. You also get excellent personal service in tracing unusual items not listed (for instance 1:50,000 geological maps of Norway!).

From home to Upton to The Map Shop is a very pleasant 60 or so mile round-trip ride for me . . . . it's very difficult to catch them out with an IGN map being out of stock

- AND there's an excellent bakery along the road that does different varieties of pies during the week!
The 1-100,000 IGN are perfect for cycling in France - I have a frighteningly large collection gathered over the years.

Thanks for the correction Sweep - when I typed Haymarket I had this nagging doubt.
Still a great shop though

Thanks everyone for the input and help, I think I can get what I need from Upton maps, I spoke to a very helpful and pleasant sounding Lady, so well done to Upton Maps as well. Thanks T.
