Just looked under bb and it looks like it's had a respray at some point so can't make out the numbers

I can take plenty of pics but it won't let me upload them as it says they are too large.

I really don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but it is possible this is not a genuine Mercian frame.
There is absolutely no reason why someone cannot respray a frame and fit any decals they wish, they are easily obtainable.
That is why lug type and frame number is important in proving that it is a genuine Mercian.
I appreciate that you have not done this yourself, but someone may have at one time, possibly for no other reason than they wanted to make a cheap frame look smarter.

I've got some pictures of the lug type but wouldn't be able to tell you if it's mercian or not.

I'm told it is a King of Mercian frame, with ancient GB brakes... The Japanese chainset is far newer than the brakes. guessing it is 27" wheels. If you can find the frame number it will date the frame. The Full wrapover top eye (seat lug area) is the giveaway apparently, from someone who worked at Mercian for 50 years (and knows his Mercians).

That's great mate. Thanks a lot for that. The only way I could get the frame number would be to strip the paint back from the bb.
