I'd interested to know how they established speeding. Admission by the driver? Phone evidence timing how long between widely spaced masts?
Other than very short sections between other routes I avoid that part of the A82 from Tyndrum to Glencoe. Narrow. Heavy traffic. When the traffic is light it is often doing 70mph.
Culpable homicide combined with the cover up should hopefull result in a lengthy sentence.

I agree. We drive that way on holiday, and will be doing again soon. I don't like that road even with a steel box round me, I wouldn't dream of cycling it. The amazing vista at the top of Glencoe has now worn off. All I'm aware of is the horrible twisty road, and too many people driving too fast.
I hope those [rude word removed] rot in hell.

Details of latest hearing here
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland- ... l-66317438
It looks as though the defendant could not resist telling a girlfriend about what had happened to the body of the deceased and she reported that to the police
It's reported sentencing will be on 25 August

Simply astonishing on all levels.

I believe the driver had a number of driving-related convictions. Not sure if the details of those have come out yet, or whether that will be part of sentencing. I am bracing myself for the possibility that this was a banned driver, or someone who should have been banned.

Driving at excess speed is included in the amended charge of culpable homicide. From what has been reported it seems most likely that it is part of the agreed narrative submitted with the guilty plea.

A Radio Scotland report said he had previous for careless driving, dangerous driving, and drunk driving. It didn't say whether they were seperate incidents or whether that was the complete record.
A older relative, presumably his father, also of Auch Estate, was a charmer as well.

I wonder what on earth led him to reveal where the deceased was buried.
This case has some vague similarities with a controversial case in Leeds in the early 1990s when a woman walked out of her house and immediately disappeared. The finger of suspicion pointed to her husband and when he advertised on some sort of lonely hearts www he was contacted by an undercover policewoman who took the line that she wasn't getting into a relationship if his wife was likely to come back. He told her why that wasn't going to happen and the covert recordings were central to the prosecution case.

Bravado, stupidity, and gnawing guilt, I should imagine. If the latter, I hope it keeps gnawing, on and on and on.

Incomprehensible human stupidity.

Allegedly some sort of conversation with his girlfriend where she asked if he had anything to hide before their relationship got more serious - maybe thinking something like another woman, kids or whatever rather than killing a guy and hiding all the evidence.
Good job she went to the police - without that it'd be one of those lifelong unsolved cases.

Even more so that she had the presence of mind, even in mid-revelation, to leave the crucial Red Bull can as marker.

I draw the conclusion that she's a 'good-un' ..... however did she get involved with someone like him? Fair play for her to think of marking the spot and also reporting.
