Are there statutory guidelines or laws as to the distances required to be used for the width of a cycleway (ie where waiting for a bus passengers and cyclists will be using the same space)
This will be just outside Leicester station where a cyclist was killed by a car
Thanks in advance

There is one near me, that is supposedly 2 way, but is only 3 feet wide in places, it's also part of an NCN route.

What I am especially concerned about m is that outside Leicester rail station as well as 2 bustops serving 6 services there is also a pelican crossing _ find it very hard to work out how cyclists going south on London can avoid competing for space with pedestrians awaiting a bus or to cross the road or to walk past the station...

The whole idea of shared pavements is bad, IMHO. The shared paths are either too narrow, don't take into account bus stops, road crossings etc., cross peoples driveways, cross peoples property exit/entrance in general (gates, gaps into front paths, even front doors on properties with no front garden). Its almost designed to have collisions between bikes and vehicles entering/leaving driveways, small children walking out of the garden onto the pavement, wheelchair users, prams/pushchairs, elderly or injured people with walking aids. Bad for everybody in urban areas.
Sorry - rant over.

Generally I share the reservations and note there are no statutory requirements, only guidelines that I've never seen followed in full, not even in new build.
But it's important to remember that people are allowed to walk almost everywhere so even "dedicated" cycleways are effectively shared. It's more important that there's adequate width and still footways where walkers want them.

Theoretically possible but very very rare and even more rarely enforced.

Perhaps self enforcement?

I don't think anyone supposes you're interested in a rant and it probably helps lowers someone's blood pressure. The whole forum isn't here only to serve those starting topics. Share and enjoy!

LCDS are probably a better place to start (also only guidance, but with some credibility).
