Fitting for rear light on rack if no end-plate

This has been discussed often before but I cannot find the thread. Most of my racks have end-plates with holes for a standard Cateye fitting (which is great) but I've discovered two that haven't (seems a bit remiss to me).

Can anyone point me to a fitting that fits onto the rack and provides the holes for the actual light fitting. I think SJS used to do one but I cannot find it.

Thank you.

I cable tied a length of alloy seatpost to the rack, all of my LED taillights came with seatpost fittings.

I don't know if this would work with your light but I have used one for mine.

you should be able to get a reflector bracket for it or failing that a galvanised angle bracket and drill it out for the light fitting and bolt it on.

Wow!! Thanks everyone - super quick!!

I'm going to go with Vetus Ossa's suggestion - it is basically what I was looking for (but couldn't find). But the DIY ideas look interesting. Our Rob from here also once did a DIY with alu tube.

I Googled the SJS fitting and no-one else sells it. SJS is quite expensive but they seem to be the only people who sell useful things.

Thanks again!!

PS I did also find this in the meantime so now i have a choice:

Spa Cycles do sell various light brackets. At some stage, they must have sold a backing plate for the type of lamp you are talking about ie designed to fit on a rack which has a mounting plate with a couple of holes, because I have a lamp (AXA ?) bought from Spa fitted on a plateless rack, using a separate plate. Also, in the days when they used to advertise in the CTC mag they used to offer "P" clips for this purpose.

OTOH, if you don't necessarily want to fit a lamp of that type, get a short length of alloy tube (a bit of handlebar etc) cut a pair of slots on opposite sides which are a tight fit on your rack, then fasten a seatpost-type lamp around it using the light's mounting band to clamp the slots in the tube.
===========================
This is something like what I thought you were looking for, the obvious conclusion being that you might make something similar out of a bit of metal plate.

I think this is what Rob was talking about but his pic isn't very clear:

What I think I will do is order a proprietory fitting so I'm sorted but then have a look at a DIY version along the lines you suggest for another bike (they aren't cheap). I've even got some aluminium tubing - I think I'm being a bit lazy here.

Would that then create the two requisite holes for a standard fitting (have I got this right?)

Re my suggestion of the short length of alloy tube here's a picture of one of mine.

Blackburn sell a little bracket for fitting reflectors to

It is sized to clamp around the part of the rack that has two rods welded alongside one another.

maybe one (or two) of these will allow a rear light to be mounted? If you cannot space the brackets apart far enough a strip of aluminium with four holes drilled in it will solve that problem.

cheers

On a couple of racks, I've drilled through the welded together rods at the back of the rack and fitted a Cateye fitting. Works well and doesn't seem to weaken the rack. This method was first suggested by CJ, I think.

Or you could try this:

Be aware that that J82S carrier bracket is for 8 mm solid aluminium rod racks, like the original Blackburns.
Many more recent racks have thicker tubing, and it won't fit them

This is the B+M bracket to provide a two-hole plate on racks that don't have them.

It goes below the rack top deck, clamping against two cross bars. Won't fit everything, but should do for most.

Andrew is quite correct, the bracket I linked will fit up to 8mm bar/tubing. Mine is fitted on my bagman, which is 7mm.
It is a nice firm solution if it does fit your rack.
