From a cursory browse it seems that this name was attached to a number of frames through differing generations, of different construction - perhaps useful to clarify the construction of the one you are referencing?

they do vary in construction somewhat.

In general you have to ask yourself whether you wouldn't be better off with a new frame (with a warranty) than with a used one (without).

cheers

...and painted carbon construction, assuming it is the one I linked, being particularly worrisome, perhaps?

There you go: carbon is going to explode and kill the rider, just because it's carbon fiber isn't it?
Indeed, painted carbon -especially if painted in light colours- would crack the paint well before there is actually damage in the carbon fiber itself. There's a huge amount of carbon fiber frames out there that go back to warranty just because hairlines in the white or yellow paint, this has cracked because cannot cope with the natural flex of the carbon in some areas.

I'd actually look at the metal side of the frame, because alluminium, and especially on a frame that is supposed to be a "race" frame, is not going to last forever as it was never meant to be. AFAIK, that frame is made out of Scandium, so buy it only if you can trust the seller didn't use it much and is not a heavy bloke.
It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best,
since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.
Thus you remember them as they actually are...

What's to worry about painted carbon fiber in general?

A friend of mine had one like that about 11-12 years ago, raced it a lot around Crystal Palace and the likes, so I'd assume this one in the link is a frame around 2004/5. Very responsive frame.

FWIW, it may last many years if used properly, but make sure is always cleaned up and away from elements of potential corrosion: this guy's frame was not looked after in that respect, and developed severe corrosion around the cable stops.
It was still fine to use, though eventually had to be retired after a bad crash :(

Thanks all, going to look at a new frame.
Kinesis Aethein Evo- Caad 12 -Specialized Dsw, have heard the Aethein is having fork issues though, Radial bikes also do a frame but I believe it is heavy.
Planet x Galibier is light sub 1kg but is having probs with it's forks as the " new 25mm tyres" are too wide and rub on the crown so theyare selling them off cheap sayingthey are safe on 23mm.

Fairly different choices there... my take would be to choose with the geometry that you (and someone that can set up the bike for you) think works better for your body measurements, and warranty also: an lightweight alluminium frame may last only a few seasons
