Thank you. I have some of that. I'll try it.

I really wouldn't do that if I were you.
Isopropyl alcohol is a volatile solvent which will merely dilute the oil, allowing it to be wicked into adjacent areas.
Swarfega, on the other hand, is an emulsifier which renders the oil soluble in water, enabling it to be washed out of the garment with normal laundering.

thank you very much for the clarification. I hadn't realised that, only having tried it on car windscreens before.....

Try a tech wash first, putting chemicals of any sort could cause delamination of the fabric and the Gortex layer. Grangers has always removed oil from my Gortex jacket. Unless you have ground it in.

By all means try Swarfega. I have had no problems with Isopropyl alcohol causing delamination or spreading the oil in the fabric on my Goretex jacket. We are only talking about small amount sufficient to dampen a cotton wool ball. If you rub towards the centre of the stain you reduce any risk of spreading the oil. Try it on a bit that doesn't show if you are bothered.

Chain degreaser definitely helped to fade the oil I'd managed to get on the front of my goretex jacket. Poured a reasonable amount onto the area to form a kinda puddle, left for 10 mins, scrubbed gently for around 30 mins and bunged it in the washing machine Et voila and all that jazz

Noting that oil itself may not stain that much.
The usual problem is the general muck suspended in the oil.
If you just wash out the oil you can leave the muck, grit, filth, whatever behind.

Having said that I might be looking for a small tub of Swarfega.
