Anyone know a good supplier of tyres and tubes? None of my usual bike shops seem to have that 24 inch size. Ta.

assuming that you have the 520 size then there are various sources for tyres.

First, any LBS that is a Schwalbe dealer ought to be able to get the tyres in for you in a day or two. Past that any airnimal dealer ought to carry these tyres.

If you search for tyres on the interweb try 23-520, 25-520, 24x0.9", 24x1.0" as search terms. Many retailers carry one or two tyres in this size.

J.E. James list a 25-520 tyre

Spa cycles have tyres e.g.

-they may have more choice than this in the right size but good luck finding them on their website; you are best off phoning them IMHO.

SJS have a 520 tyre listed

In my experience you won't find anywhere offering much range but really it's not such arare size these days as many junior road bikes use the size now. Brucey has given you some good pointers, you can obviously contact Airnimal direct too.

Quality varies and the range is limited - I usually end up with Paselas, being the most reliably available. I'll be looking for myself in the New Year so it'd be good to hear how you get on.

got my 28mm Paselas from Airnimal themselves. Don't know if they still do them..this was some time ago, but the service was good IIRC.

I made a list of 520 tyres the other year when we were looking for some for Mrs F's Chameleon. Apart from the first three, none of them are easy to get.

  • Panaracer Pasela
  • Schwalbe Durano
  • Kenda K191 / Koncept
  • Terry Tellus
  • Intense Micro Knobby / MK2 / Vee Tire MK3 / Speedster
  • CST Road King 520 (no longer made?)
  • Maxxis Locust (no longer made? used as recently as 2016 by Kona: http://2016.konaworld.com/jake_24.cfm )
  • Specialized Spanky (no longer made?)
  • Odyssey Overbite / T126 (no longer made? used in 2015 in the Redline Conquest)
  • Odyssey Red Racer (no longer made?)
  • Schwalbe Stelvio (no longer made)

520 x 32 and too chunky to fit the clearances on an Airnimal.

You can order the Terry tyre direct from Terry in the US.

I note that Evans are currently selling the 24x1.25 Maxxis Locust (as the HOY Locust). I will defer to gaz's greater wisdom on the Chameleon clearances, but they might be useful for Joey owners.
